Workers make sure each tie is installed and aligned correctly with the existing ties.
The tie plate sweeper clears debris off the plate in preparation for the new ties to be spiked into place.
The new ties are aligned and spiked into place by spike drivers.
Each tie is forced into place by the ballast tamper.
And finally, a ballast regulator evenly spreads the ballast around the new ties to ensure proper drainage.
